How to draft a bucket hat

This is my first official blog post🎉 I hope I will be of help to you today. I posted a YouTube video on how I achieved my first bucket hat, and I promised to drop the measurements here. So let’s dive in.

🛠 What You’ll Need

📏 Measurements to Take

  1. Head circumference
  2. Crown depth
  3. Brim width

  • Let’s get to work

A. Crown:  I’m using 24inches as my head measurement

24  divided by 6.28 = 3.8

i. Folding our square shaped draft sheet into 2

ii. Using our ruler to map out a perfect circle

iii. It’s time to cut following the dotted lines

This is why it’s advisable to draft on a drafting paper (your mistake can be corrected) not directly on fabric

B. Side Band

i. You can either divide the head circumference by 2 = 12”

Or you can choose to cut the whole circumference 24”  dont forget to add seam allowance

ii. Measure your height, mine is 3 and half + my half an inch seam allowance = 4inches in height

C. Brim

i. Head circumference 24” divided by 3.14 = 7.6”

ii. We are going to draft it the same way we did on the crown and cut it the same way

iii. Add 3inches as height (or your desired height) + seam allowance
